Prepare and organize audio

Keep originals, split chapters and export files in a predictable order.

Keep the source

Make a working copy of your recording before editing. Choose filenames that sort correctly, such as 001 Opening and 002 First Chapter. Preview the files locally and keep enough free space for exports.

Split a long recording

An audio editor such as Audacity can help identify chapter boundaries. Add and check labels manually, then export separate chapter files. Silence detection is a starting point; music and pauses can produce incorrect boundaries. Listen around each cut to avoid losing words.

Check the exported files, not just the editor project. Confirm the first and last seconds of every chapter, the order, names and volume before uploading. Use the formats and limits listed in Yoto's current upload documentation.

M4B and chapter metadata

An M4B audiobook can be useful for your own audiobook player, but embedded chapters are not the same as separate tracks in a MYO playlist. If you want selectable MYO tracks, prepare separate supported audio files and check their order after upload.

The original guide credited Step-3-Profit's explanation and linked AudioBookConverter. Consult those sources for that workflow rather than assuming old menu labels and settings still apply.

Upload next

Create the playlist, review it, then link the card. Keep the local originals after a successful upload. Provider-specific audio acquisition and conversion tutorials are being reviewed separately.
